Detailed Skincare Routine for Beginners
Now that we have talked about the usual steps let’s talk about what these steps include. The mandatory factor here is to apply your skincare products in the correct order. Once you know the routine, you can progress your own skincare effortlessly.
Washing Your Face
Aside from the regular morning and night skincare times, you should also wash your face multiple times throughout the day to prevent dirt or grime from accumulating.
- Wash your face first and apply a tiny amount of cleanser. Make sure that your palm is also clean.
- Rub the cleanser all over your face – gently.
- Finally, rinse your face with water, washing away the cleanser,
- While removing your makeup, you may need to use cleansing oil. If you have any good makeup remover product on your shelf, use it.
- Sometimes you may need to apply the cleanser a second time.
Applying Toner
As cleansers can wash away some nutritional properties from the face, a toner can be applied.
Apply the toner using your palm. Use a few drops only. There are two types of toners:
- Hydrating toners
- Exfoliating toners
The latter is usually for nighttime skincare. When using exfoliators, don’t use an exfoliating toner. Using both during the same skincare routine is not good for the skin.
Applying Serum
Serums can be two types depending on their bases.
- A water-type serum – apply before the moisturizer.
- An oil-type serum – apply after the moisturizer.
There are multiple types of serums.
- Serum containing hyaluronic acid – good for nighttime skincare and will prevent the skin from drying out.
- Serum containing antioxidants – best for morning skincare and for protecting against the suns rays.
- If using a serum with exfoliants, don’t use exfoliating toners; use a different type.
Spot Treatments
When applying skin treatment, you must avoid using different types together. For example, salicylic acids are not suitable for working simultaneously with benzoyl peroxide.
Doing so can cause skin irritation and other skin issues.
Spot treatments are usually best for the night, as this provides time to work on your face while you sleep.
Applying Eye Cream
If you are using any eye cream, you will want to use it before the moisturizer. Eye creams are skincare products that you can refrigerate. Use eye creams for preventing puffy eyes in the morning.
Eye creams aren’t always necessary, as moisturizers can do the job well. However, look out for eye creams with special properties, those for specific skincare needs.
Applying Moisturizer
Moisturizers are one of the most important parts of your skincare routine as they:
- Hydrate your skin. Keep it from dying out. Moisturizer also fights dry skin conditions.
- Reduces skin aging issues.
- As a protective layer, it keeps every other skincare product locked in.
- Elevates your skin tone.
There is a vast option of moisturizers. You will find specific ones for morning – with at least SPF 30 – and for night. Night moisturizers are usually more dense.
Applying Retinoid
Retinoids are mostly for nighttime skincare, as they tend to be unstable in sunny conditions. Those that do work during the day, apply sunscreen over them.
Retinol can make skin very sensitive to the sun and can be irritating for some skin types.
Applying Face Oil
Since most oil products are of a pretty thick consistency, use it over all skincare products.
Face oil can also help lock those skincare products beneath.
Applying Sunscreen
Sunscreen isn’t to heal or hydrate your skin but to protect it from the sun. Leave it off at your peril. It is essential for the health of your skin.
- Protecting your skin with sunscreen is essential to prevent several skin issues resulting from the sun’s harmful rays, including UV.
- Sunscreen helps to prevent skin cancer.
Use sunscreen to shield the skin from UV rays – UVA, UVB, etc. Remember! Sunscreen is mandatory for the morning skincare routine.
Many sunscreens take 20-30 minutes to start working. So, plan ahead before going out.
Skincare is not a luxurious choice; it is a need. Focusing on a proper skincare routine is mandatory if you want your skin to remain fresh and healthy. Try out various skincare products first to discover which works for you. And eat healthy and sleep well. Studies suggest that lack of sleep is tied to many skin problems.
